Postcards from the Past

A few weeks ago we posted a picture of this old postcard featuring a delightful hand drawn illustration of a pansy that was used to send out to customers to inform them that their order had been received.

Acknowledgement Postcard

We received some great feedback to this post saying how wonderful the postcard was and how beautiful the artwork was. This led me to raid the archives to see what else I could find out about it. Trawling through our library of catalogues reaching back throughout our 200 year history and various other books and memorabilia that line the shelves, I came across a pile of these charming cards. Sent out in the early 1900s to acknowledge the receipt of an order, each one has a different illustration of a plant sold at the time, some of which like Nigella Miss Jekyll are still available today.

Below is gallery of these amazing postcards and we would love to hear what you think about them and which is your favourite. What’s more, when you next place an order you might just find one of these amazing pieces of artwork pop up in your inbox on your Order Acknowledgement.
