For 2017 we’re bringing back 12 of your favourite seed varieties.
At Suttons we’re all for innovation, introducing new and improved vegetable and flower varieties each season. Sometimes however, this means that there isn’t always room in our range for all the varieties from the year before and we stop selling some of them.
Unfortunately, we know, this means that some of your favourites from previous years are no longer available, which is why this year we are delighted to reintroduce these much loved 12 varieties back into our range for 2017.
Carrot F1 Purple Haze
Not all carrots are orange!
Purple Haze is the first hybrid purple carrot combining great taste and a vigorous growth habit with a colour that will brighten up mealtimes and could be a good way to encourage children to eat vegetables! Very high in vitamin A and a good choice to get kids eating veg.
Brussels Sprout F1 Crispus
Club Root Resistant!
Very well adapted to growing under stressed conditions, reliably producing good crops of smooth, dark green sprouts, that hold well. Sprouts don’t just have to be for Christmas, pick Crispus from September to November. A good source of vitamin C and fibre and if you’re not sure on how to cook, cut a cross on the base of each sprout and boil for minimum time.
Courgette F1 Yolanda
A quality F1 hybrid courgette, producing heavy crops of tasty dark green fruit. Excellent disease resistance in our trials, including the notorious powdery mildew! Pick often to ensure continuity and a steady stream of fruit throughout the season. Leave skin on when cooking and add to stir-fries and kebabs, or pass through a spiralizer to make ‘courgetti’, a great alternative to pasta. High in vitamins A, C and E.
Cucumber F1 Bella (Female Type)
Good plant growth and crops very well.
A superb cucumber with resistance to Powdery Mildew. Vigorous plant habit and heavy yield of long, slightly ribbed, quality dark green bitter free fruits. Also resistant to Target Leaf Spot and Gummosis and tolerant to Downy Mildew. With a water content of 96.4% cucumbers are low in calories and are excellent for salads and sandwiches.
Dwarf French Bean Tendergreen
An excellent early dwarf French bean, Tendergreen produces a good crop of string-less beans, round and of medium length. The distinctively flavoured, stringless pods crop over a long period if picked regularly and are perfect to use fresh from the garden or for freezing if you can’t keep up with their supply. recommended by the National Institute of Agricultural Botany.
Leek F1 Striker
Excellent quality and very tasty!
A high quality, heavy cropping leek. The full-flavoured leeks boast long shanks and stand well in the garden without running to seed. Extremely hardy, and particularly useful in cold areas. Use in soups and stews, as a boiled vegetable or in stir-fries. High in potassium, folic acid and vitamin A and C.
Pea Mongetout Sweet Horizon
For fresh use or freezing.
This true mangetout pea has a strong growth habit and resistant to powdery mildew. produces a good crop of sweet and tasty “eat all” medium/dark green pods. Delicious stir-fried or steamed.
Peas are a good source of vitamin B1 and folic acid. Recommended for freezing.
Squash Crown Prince F1
Good flavour and storing ability.
Steel blue skin and bright orange flesh with a sweet nutty flavour, and averaging 3-4kg (6½-9 lb) in weight. The storage potential is excellent; it can be over 3 months if kept in a frost-free area with good ventilation. Can even be used just like a potato, for something deliciously different bake in foil like a jacket potato.
Runner Bean Lady Di (stringless)
Heavy cropper!
A first-rate, stringless runner bean, producing an abundant crop of 25-30cm (10-12″) long beans over a long period. Very good flavour and popular with local allotment holders who have trialled it. Winner of the RHS Award of Garden Merit and perfect for freezing if you’re not able to eat the beans as quick as they are produced. For a great colour effect grow some sweet peas among your runner beans.
Tomato Tamina
Exceptional taste!
A superb early ‘potato-leaved’ tomato with an outstanding taste, thought to be better than ordinary-leaved varieties. Grow under glass or outdoors for a heavy crop of medium-sized, round fruits – approximately 70gms (2½oz). Very easy to grow and maintain with little side shooting required. Packed with antioxidants including vitamins A and C and lycopene, they stimulate the body’s immune system.
French Marigold Red Brocade
These large, mahogany-red blooms with yellow centres on branching plants will provide a dramatic display when grown in beds and borders, patio containers, or rockeries in a sunny position. An early blooming half hardy annual that grows to a height of 20-25cm (8-10″).
Scabious Japonica Ritz Blue
A superb hardy perennial that’s a heaven for butterflies. The rich green leaves are topped by a profusion of delicate sky blue flowers that will come back year after year. Perfect for borders or in a pot on the patio and looks great as part of cut flower arrangement. Height 15-18cm (6-7″).
