A brave new world of compost

I’ve been living with a couple of plastic compost bins for the last few years. They’re the type that you get cheap from the local council (below) – They’re very functional, in that you put old plants and lawn clippings in the top and compost (eventually) comes out the bottom. The problem is that it’s very difficult to get the compost out (you can see the small panel in the bottom of the bin) and it’s also very difficult to aerate the compost. So I recently took the bold decision to upgrade to a pair of new modular compost bins!

They’ve got much more capacity and importantly it’s much easier to mix the compost and to remove it when it’s ready. They were (relatively) simple to put together (it took two of us around an hour plus a lot of time moving the compost from the old bins) and I think they look great!
